The American Rock Mechanics Association (ARMA) is a professional and international engineering and scientific society, which promotes interaction among specialists, practitioners, scholars, and educators in rock mechanics and geomechanics. ARMA advocates for individuals and firms in all aspects of rock mechanics and geomechanics, including multi-disciplinary rock physics and rock engineering technology advancement and technological applications for civil engineering, mining engineering and tunneling, oil and gas recovery, and geo-related socioeconomic problem-solving. ARMA provides a forum and information resources for members, related organizations, and the public, while a strong student membership ensures future continuity.
The Dhahran Geoscience Society (DGS) is a nonprofit organization based in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. The society was founded in 1987 by a group of enthusiastic geologists who anticipated the need for a platform to share technical ideas and promote professional development within the local oil and gas exploration community. The founders originally named the society the Dhahran Geological Society, but in 1998, DGS became known as the Dhahran Geoscience Society in its transformation to a multidisciplinary organization encompassing geology, geophysics, and related sciences. The main mission of the DGS is to provide technical and professional development for its members in the domain of exploration for, and development of, petroleum and mineral resources within Saudi Arabia.
The Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) is a global not-for-profit organization with a mission of connecting the world of applied geophysics. Founded in 1930, SEG provides information, tools, and resources vital to advancing the science of exploration geophysics, fostering common scientific interests, supporting humanitarian efforts, and accelerating geophysical innovation. Inspiring the geophysicists of today and tomorrow, SEG’s long-standing tradition of excellence in education, professional development, new business generation, and engagement cultivates a unique community platform that encourages collaboration and thought leadership for the advancement of geophysical science around the world. The American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), founded in 1917, has been a pillar of the world-wide scientific community. The original purpose of AAPG, to foster scientific research, to advance the science of geology, to promote technology, and to inspire high professional conduct, still guides the Association today. Currently the world’s largest professional geological society with approximately 23,000 members in 126 countries, AAPG provides publications, conferences, and educational opportunities to geoscientists and disseminates the most current geological information available to the general public.
Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering (CSRME) is an academic mass organization for scientists and engineers in the field of rock mechanics and engineering in China. It was founded on the basis of ISRM National Group of China (NG China). The establishment of NG China was proposed jointly by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and approved by the State Council in 1978. The preparatory group of CSRME was formed in 1981 and CSRME was officially established in June 1985. CSRME has experienced continuous growth and development for nearly 40 years since its establishment. Its professional fields mainly include water conservancy and hydropower, mining, petroleum, rail transportation, national defense engineering, disaster prevention, urban construction and environmental protection. CSRME has gradually established itself as an influential social organization in China, operating across a range of industries, sectors, and disciplines. CSRME is proud to have over 115,335 registered individual members and 80 corporate members in China. The number of international individual members has increased from a dozen in1979 to over 1,600 today. In addition, it has 53 professional and working committees in total.
The European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) is a global professional, not-for-profit association for geoscientists and engineers with approximately 19,000 members worldwide. It provides a global network of commercial and academic professionals to all members. The association is truly multi-disciplinary and international in form and pursuits. The objectives of the Association shall be to promote the development and application of geosciences and related engineering subjects, to promote innovation and technical progress and to foster the communication, fellowship, and cooperation between those working in, studying or otherwise being interested in these fields. All members of EAGE are professionally involved in (or studying) geophysics, petroleum exploration, geology, reservoir engineering, mining and mineral exploration, civil engineering, tunneling and environmental matters. EAGE operates two divisions: the Oil & Gas Geoscience Division and the Near Surface Geoscience Division.
The Oman Geological Society (GSO) is considered one of the first professional associations in Oman, which aims to spread geological knowledge among students, employees, and the local community to protect and preserve Oman’s geological heritage. It organized more than 100 scientific and non-scientific events for members and the Omani community. It also published many scientific publications and periodicals, participated in many local and international scientific forums, and includes more than 500 geological members from various levels of Employees, students, and researchers.
The Kuwait Geosciences Society (KGS) is a professional organization dedicated to the advancement of geosciences in Kuwait and the surrounding region. Established to foster collaboration among geoscientists, KGS aims to promote research, education, and knowledge dissemination in various geoscientific disciplines, including geology, geophysics, and environmental sciences. Through conferences, workshops, and seminars, the society provides a platform for professionals to share insights, discuss innovations, and address pressing geological challenges.
